Nomu Ramen
About This Spot
Nestled on a bustling stretch of Milwaukee Avenue, Nomu Ramen offers an inviting escape that feels both thoughtfully curated and warmly familiar. From the moment you step inside, the space hums with a relaxed, elegant energy — where modern touches meet subtle nods to Japanese aesthetics, like the striking ginkgo leaf artwork that adorns the walls. The atmosphere encourages you to settle in slowly, as gentle melodies provide a soundtrack to gatherings that might be intimate dinners or lively shared moments with friends.
The rhythm here is unhurried but attentive, marked by genuine hospitality that makes you feel more like a welcomed guest than just a patron. Service flows naturally, with servers who combine knowledge of the menu and its rich flavors with a bright warmth that invites conversation and exploration.
Nomu’s culinary experience unfolds through thoughtfully prepared dishes that celebrate the depth and variety of Japanese cuisine beyond just ramen. Whether you find comfort in the tender chashu pork nestled in a bowl of steaming Tonkotsu broth or delight in the playful crunch of takoyaki, each bite tells a story of balanced flavors and textures. There’s a quiet confidence to the menu’s mix of classics and inventive takes—like vegan ramen crafted with kale-based noodles—a detail that reflects care for diverse palates and a desire to create something memorable.
The space itself feels spacious and clean, a serene backdrop to the rich, soothing bowls and smaller plates designed for sharing. It’s easy to imagine returning here not just for the food, but for moments — a relaxed date night, a gathering of friends craving something a little different, or a comforting solo meal that feels like a pause in a busy day.
In its own subtle way, Nomu Ramen becomes a local haven, one that invites you to discover flavors slowly, enjoy the quiet joy of good company, and leave with a gentle feeling of satisfaction that lingers comfortably, much like the umami-rich broth that first welcomes you.

I was invited by a friend to try this place. Once we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted by the hostess and guide us on our table. Once we seated, the water came in and gave us a few minutes to check the menu. Our server gave us good options and she’s very nice and bubbly. Once we ordered it only took few minutes and our food was served. Please see the pictures with my intakes

Looking for Vegan Ramen nearby and found this restaurant. I ordered Yasai Shio Ramen. It was tasty. The noodles are made of Kale which is very easy to enjoy. The broth has umami flavor. This dish is a good option for vegan people. My husband and my son ordered Tonkotsu shoyu and Tonkotsu shio ramen. They both are delicious as well. The chashu pork is tender. The restaurant is big, nice and clean. Service is excellent.

Honestly, it was better than I expected. I’m a pretty picky eater when it comes to ramen and Asian food in general since I was born in Japan and lived in Taiwan for 8 years, but for American standards, this was well above average. The tonkotsu shio and yuzu shoyu ramen were both seasoned really well. The noodles could be a bit more “QQ” for my taste, but overall, they were great. The pork slices were juicy and tender too. Overall, I’d say this is easily one of the best spots in Illinois for ramen and Japanese food.

Had the Yaki Udon, the noodles were nice and thick, were a bit softer than I expected, flavors were delicious. The volcano fries were top notch, had a decent amount of kick, everyone in my party enjoyed them. Would come here again to try the other ramen dishes.

Today I savored the most amazing Yasai Ramen. Nomu is my new favorite restaurant. It is very elegant inside with large artworks of ginkgo leaves on the wall, and fun music playing. This is a great place for a date. The Ramen was especially delicious, but what sets Nomu apart is the service. The hospitality is warm and welcoming. It's out of the way, a little hidden, but well worth seeking out. I will be returning often.

The food is good. The service is good. I think they were a little better when they first opened. They definitely need to figure out there. Weird bathroom situation.

I had the chance to try Nomu Ramen, a small, locally owned Korean American business, and I’m really glad I did. The food was fresh, flavorful, and kept me wanting to go back for another bite. The calamari was a standout and something I’d highly recommend. I also really enjoyed the cold soba noodles, this spot easily makes my top three places in Illinois for that dish. The service was solid, and the atmosphere brought back memories of having ramen while living in Japan and Korea, which made the experience even more special. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any dish you choose at Nomu Ramen!
